The Thinkers on AI podcast is an extension of the Doing AI Efficiently newsletter. It showcases perspectives on AI from unique and interesting writers from around the world.
Today’s episode features the work of Hessie Jones.
Hessie writes System Malfunction, a newsletter designed to shed light on how “many of our systems, inherited social beliefs and values shape our processes, procedures and rules.” Her focus is on the battle to make our systems, whether emergent, such as in AI, or well-established (money, political power), work for the masses.
Hessie is a journalist who formally wrote for Forbes, Huffington Post and other publications.
In her post, “Who Are the AI Pragmatists?”, she focuses on everyday AI users, who aren’t living in the extremes of uncritical acceptance or unfettered doomerism.
I like the human stories she shares about how people are working to adjust to a world where AI is present, even if they aren’t enthusiastic about all the technology brings. Here I share a few of these stories.
An interview I conducted with Hessie about her work will be featured in a future podcast episode.
